WINCHELSEA BOWLS SHINING BRIGHT
Winchelsea lawn bowlers can now bowl day and night thanks to new competition lighting around the Winchelsea Bowls Club green, made possible by the Allan Labor Government.
Parliamentary Secretary for Community Sport Michaela Settle today formally switched on the club’s new 100 lux LED lighting, made possible by more than $112,000 from the Allan Labor Government.
Since 1932 the Winchelsea Bowls Club has been a focal point of bowls in the area. Today membership has grown to almost 100, with competition and social bowls more popular than ever.
There are four new light towers around the green allowing the club to host more bowls from barefoot to pennant throughout the year.
The new lights are also energy savers with efficient LED fittings spreading even light, improving safety for players and encouraging greater participation in lawn bowls for all.
The club can now build on its memberships, extend pennant competitions and host more intra and interclub tournaments.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is investing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sports infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field and improving the health, wellbeing and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
Michaela Settle MP acknowledged project partner Winchelsea Bowls Club for its more than $37,000 contribution and the Surf Coast Shire for its delivery of the project.
