PLANNING UNDERWAY FOR BUNINYONG SAFETY UPGRADES

The Andrews Labor Government is giving members of the Buninyong community the chance to have their say on future projects to improve road safety, pedestrian access and encourage active transport.

Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle today announced that a Buninyong Community Road Safety Committee will be established to determine what improvements and upgrades are needed.

The committee is expected to include representatives from the Buninyong and District Community Association, Traffic Action Group, City of Ballarat, Victoria Police, the logistics and freight industry.

A qualified consultant will be appointed to develop a list of safety projects alongside the committee, including detailed designs for at least three priority projects.

The committee will undertake community consultation and design a range of safety and amenity improvements for road users and pedestrians. Additional funding will be required for construction to complete the upgrades.

This important upgrade planning is funded as part of the Labor Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program (FLTSP) which provides funding to partner with local government and community organisations for small-scale transport projects.

Quotes attributable to Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle

“It is so important that we improve road safety in Buninyong by listening to the people who know the area best.

This committee will identify safety upgrades in the town not only for drivers, but pedestrians too. I am so pleased that this will be driven by the community.”

Quotes attributable to Buninyong District Community Association

“Following the public meeting held earlier this year, four key action items were identified. One of these was a meeting between Regional Roads Victoria, Buninyong District Community Association, and local member Michaela Settle.

The objective of this forum is to develop a program of short-term traffic calming treatments. It is encouraging to see this progress towards one of our important goals.”
